These past few months I have learned so much about the wedding planning process that it’s almost making my head spin. When my fiance proposed almost 4 months ago I was so excited that I wanted to do everything all at once and as a result, I did somethings a little bit out of order I must admit. This includes picking the venue BEFORE finalizing the guest list. BIG yikes! Here are the three things to keep in when choosing the perfect place for your special day.
1.) Guest List
The first step to the wedding planning process should be the guest list. In the beginning, I completely neglected this thinking that we both knew exactly who we were inviting. Before you choose a venue with a low capacity make sure your guest list is complete. Our guest list ended up being way larger than we were anticipating and you don’t want to have to cut people from the roster if you go over capacity.
2.) Back-Up Plan
Outdoor venues can be gorgeous, bright, and fit your theme perfectly. BUT, what if it rains? Make sure your venue has an alternative indoor location or the option to set up an event tent just in case the weather decides not to cooperate for your big day.
3.) Location + Proximity
The proximity of your ceremony and reception venue is important to consider. You don’t want to be stuck in the car for an hour or two waiting to celebrate. Also, if you decide to serve alcohol at your reception make sure your location is near hotels or Airbnbs, especially if your guests are traveling a long way for your special day.
While these are major things to consider there are also little details to keep in mind. Such as:
- Is there enough parking space?
- Is there a space for you and your wedding party to get ready?
- Can you bring your own vendors?
- What is the lighting situation? (think of the photos!)
- How long can you stay?
